Next Columbus Social Media Cafe … A Tasty Place to Start
January 17, 2008
The third meet-up of the Columbus Social Media Cafe is set for Thursday, January 31st at 6:30 pm at WOSU@COSI. We are looking at this meeting as the opportunity to go from the discussions of our first two meetings to something tangible and actionable.
Here’s one idea:
Columbus is a great city for food and lovers of food. We have some terrific food bloggers in the city who are writing about dining, cooking, local food production and more. At WOSU, we connect with viewers and listeners who share this same passion.
Given how we intersect in this way, WOSU is seeking to bring the talented musings of our local food bloggers into an audio podcast that we can promote and pull excerpts for use during our NPR News programming on WOSU 820 AM and WOSU 89.7 FM. In addition, our Chefs In The City event coming this spring will further the celebration of Columbus as a great city for food.
One of the more interesting radio podcasts that we’ve come across is the weekly KCRW program Good Food with Los Angeles restaurateur Evan Kleiman.
We think that with the talented and passionate food bloggers here that we can create our own unique celebration around the joy of food in central Ohio.
To help us get started on this prior to the January 31st meet-up, please share your comments, suggestions, red flags, and more on this idea.
Post your thoughts here, or here, or better yet, further the conversation on your own blog. Thanks, and see you on the 31st.

1. Columbus Social Media Cafe is best for blogging on food! « Hgfn’s Weblog | January 17, 2008 at 11:32 am
[...] January 16, 2008 · No Comments It’s official- Austin , Texas is the top blogging city in the USA, but Columbus (Ohio) has the best food blogger network. Columbus has a Social Media Cafe and that’s what makes it a great blog center. Home Grown Food Network is about how we are linked intimately with our gardens! We put seed in the soil, seed grows into food plant, chef uses food plant as ingredient, and we have a wonderful meal! The Social Media Cafe food blog is about that too, because it brings growers, chefs and diners together. The Cafe is going to bring participants together in a podcast. I look forward to that. By the way, the third meet-up of the Columbus Social Media Cafe is set for Thursday, January 31st at 6:45 pm at WOSU@COSI.(more) [...]

In terms of action I’ve come across a few things worth checking out. One is the Chicago Beyondmedia Project http://beyondmedia.org/index.html which has some fantastic ideas about inclusion of community members into the media. Another very interesting site is http://blewspace.com/ which is attempting to put a physical location on bloggers. This might be a good way to create outreach opportunities to local and regional bloggers. Anyhow, I’m really looking forward to the next meetup.
