Joost.com Social Media Tool
March 25, 2008
Joost.comis a new Social Media site that is based around television watching. Particularly you can watch episodes of various shows and chat with other viewers at the same time. I wanted to share this primarily because I thought it would be very interesting to have this ability when watching local programs. For example, what if I could watch something like Columbus on the Record on my laptop, live, and throw in my two cents the way I often do anyway. The difference being that when I throw out those thoughts they might actually be received by someone other than my cat.
Eventually it would be interesting to have live programs which interact with the chat session directly. For instance (not that this would necessarily work in the particular format of COTR) let’s say Mike Thompson has asked a question of a guest on the show. Several viewers may be posting their own responses and those responses could be represented in the TV screen as a text runner at the bottom of the screen or something similar. This would also be viewable by all of the guests and Mike in studio. This would almost be like a Fred Anderly – Mike Thompson – Internet Chat mashup.
There are several technical issues that would need hammered out but I don’t see why something like this couldn’t be done with limited equipment. Obviously the show would have to also be live broadcast for its first run which COTR is not. What do you all think?
