The CSMC is now a part of the Social Media Club Movement
August 13, 2008
The Columbus Social Media Cafe is now an official Chapter of the Social Media Club.
The idea for Social Media Club originated in the Fall of 2005 with the Web 2point1 BrainJam. This led us to create the non-profit BrainJams organization to promote the idea of unconferences and ad-hoc collaboration to a broader audience of non-geeks. Over the course of the last year, BrainJams has brought us together with people from all over the world. As a result of thousands of conversations since, we realized that the passion we have for Social Media was the real purpose of what we were doing and have now launched this site to begin the conversation about the future of Social Media.
Social Media Club will bring together journalists, publishers, communications professionals, artists, amateur media creators, citizen journalists, teachers, students, tool makers, and other interested collaboraters. Essentially the people who create and consume media who have an interest in seeing the ‘media industry’ evolve for everyone’s benefit. We are more than just USERS, we are the reason the tools exist – we are the people who communicate our thoughts and ideas near and far.Join us and let’s shape the future together!
The Team that provides the vision for the Social Media Club are Chairman Chris Heuer and President Kristie Wells. Both Chris and Kristie are Co-Founders of the organzation.
Chris also serves as the Executive Director of the not for profit BrainJams, Inc. An Internet pioneer with over 12 years of online communications and Web development experience, Chris consults both startups and large corporations on how to authentically engage with customers and potential customers through Social Media. His holistic vision encompasses strategic, creative and technological capabilities which allow him to identify key insights and emergent patterns before they are widely seen by others. Over the past year he has explored practical applications of social learning theory through what is popularly called “unconferences.” He uses his community organizing and group facilitation skills to help companies better understand the markets they serve.
Chris also serves on the advisory boards for BuzzLogic, a conversational intelligence company, and Social Roots, a social media marketplace.
Kristie is a versatile generalist who ‘specializes’ in wearing multiple hats, Kristie oversees the operations of Social Media Club. With 20+ years of Sales, Marketing and Project Management experience under her belt, Kristie is working to bridge the gap between ‘techies’ and ‘non-techies’, while nurturing our partner and sponsor relationships in the hopes of accelerating the pace of positive change and innovation in the world.
The Social Media Club describes itself as a community for the champions of Social Media and those seeking to learn. We are looking to our affiliation as a way to build a better network across different cities as the Columbus Social Media Cafe continues to seek ways to engage in the community.
The SMC also recently created a an Interim Advisory Board to help move the organization forward as Chris explains on his blog.
