About

The Columbus Social Media Cafe is an open organization of central Ohio bloggers, social media users, traditional media and community organizations. The group formed in the fall of 2007 after WOSU and COSI reached out to the local blogging community in an attempt to bring some of the online voices together in an offline, face to face meet up.

The CSMC continues to function without a heirarchy allowing leadership in meetings, topics and event planning to occur more naturally. So far this has served the group well. The CSMC continues to evolve as opportunities present themselves for our group to have a positive effect on our community.

Mission:To inspire conversation and community action – together – through education, networking, and technology.

Vision: A strong social community that embraces the work of our community’s thought leaders and establishes Columbus as one of the most technologically advanced communities in the United States.

If you have ideas to share, questions that need answers or would just like to join the conversation please come out to our next meeting. Check the schedule here.

Hi writers at Social Media Cafe,

I thought you would like to know about the special VIP event for central Ohio bloggers and podcasters who cover Columbus news and happenings. The event is next Thursday, 7/31 at 6 p.m. at Experience Columbus in the Arena District (277 W. Nationwide Blvd, Suite 125).

We’ll have local snacks (Jeni’s ice cream, Brownie Points), cool new Columbus t-shirts from Skreened for everyone who attends, and you’ll get a sneak preview of the new Experience Columbus marketing and social media campaign which will be used to promote Columbus nationally. We’ll have wifi on site and people are welcome to live-blog, podcast, take pics and anything else they’d like. Please come at 5:30 p.m. if you’d like a tour of the Experience Columbus visitor center beforehand. We’ll have you on your way by 6:30 p.m. unless you’d like to stay longer to network.

Traditional Columbus media will not be notified about the new Experience Columbus campaign until after this blogging event, so you will truly be among the first to see the new ads, viral videos and Web site. If you’d like to attend, please RSVP by Wednesday, July 30 to me, Jacey Jenkins, at jacey.jenkins@fahlgren.com or 614-383-1631.

    We hope you can come!

    Thanks!
    Jacey

    Hi Andrew,

I wanted to let you know you we would like to send you an invitation to a Fahlgren open house in September at our new office featuring appetizers and drinks.

If you could please send me an email so we have your email address that would be great. My email is jacey.jenkins@fahlgren.com.

We wanted to let you know beforehand so it doesn’t get caught in your spam filter. The invite should be coming sometime in the next couple of days so if you don’t get it, let me know.

Thanks and have a great week!

    Jacey

Hey! I’m in Columbus (but live in Portland, OR), I need help setting up wordpress on a hosted server ASAP. Who can give me a few hours (for a reasonable rate) in the next couple of day? kristinwolff@mac.com or 503.888.1022. Thanks! (and I see you hosted Keven from the Guardian, who gave me my first photo credit in his blog!)

    Hey Steve,
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, we’re always happy to exchange links.
And the best way to find out what we do is to come to a meet-up. We don’t have any requirements except that you be interested. I just posted details about the next one, March 30.

just found you when I googled Flash Food…..I am planning a Flash Food Flood in Columbia, SC and maybe around the country.

I am calling it Flash Food Flood. On 5/5 at 5:55 we will wear galoshes or rain gear and meet up at our local fountain (Five Points), bringing canned food to flood the fountain with. Our local food bank has been alerted and will bring a truck and their costumed mascot.

Hoping other cities will suit up and play. 55 fountains? or 555, or 5,555.

Let me know if you wanna play out there in Ohio.

As a Columbus blogger, I thought you and your followers might be interested in an exciting contest that could win you a trip for two to Hocking Hills…

The unique contest sends participants to the Hocking Hills Tourism Association Facebook page to submit their worst gift story. Participants follow these steps to enter the contest:

    · Post your story of the “Worst Gift Ever” on the contest page.

    · All stories posted on Facebook will be kept on page.

    · People will decide to “Like” the stories they think demonstrate the worst gift ever.

    · Hocking Hills will make a final decision on the winner, based largely on the people’s choice.

The winner of Hocking Hill’s contest will receive two nights in a luxury cabin at Deer Mountain Retreat, The Grouse Nest Traveling Chef will come to the cabin to prepare a gourmet dinner one night, dinner for two at the Millstone one night, tickets for two on the Hocking Hills Canopy Tour Zipline Adventure, tickets for two on the Hocking Hills Nature Trails ATV Adventure, in-cabin couples massage, and a welcome basket in the cabin with goodies and souvenirs.

To learn more about the Hocking Hills Tourism Association, or to submit your worst gift ever, visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hocking-Hills-Tourism-Association/127672051106.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could post about this exciting Hocking Hills contest on your blog. Be sure to enter the contest yourself, too!

    Thanks for your time,

As an influential Columbus blogger, I wanted to let you know about an exciting, Emmy-award winning wildlife biologist coming to Columbus to speak at Ohio Dominican University in October.

If you’d like more information, please don’t hestitate to contact me. Ticket information can be found on the ODU site. We would love for you to post about this event, and Jeff Corwin’s visit to Columbus, on your blog.
